Proverbs 15:22 Success in life does not come without  help.

Success in life does not come without  help.  A wise man once said, "we have  nothing that was not given to us".  It is foolhardy to believe that we don't need wisdom.  If we refuse to seek out wisdom from God and wise men, we will fall short of our true potential.   Never be too proud to ask for help!  Pride precedes failure.

Proverbs 12:13-14a Blessings come to those who can control their tongue.

We live in a day when people will quickly let you know what is on their mind.  Some folks will "tongue-lash" you before they listen and consider what you have to say.  It is folly to answer a matter before you hear it (Proverbs 18:13).  God pours out favor on those who learn to control their speech.  Life is better with favor.  So, we have to practice listening carefully and being slow to speak (James 1:19).

Proverbs 28:9 If you refuse to listen to God's word, your prayers will not be heard

There are many voices in the world.  When most people hear the word of God, they recognize a difference.  God’s word speaks to the human condition and seeks to lead mankind to a better life.  When people decide NOT to listen to it, they unknowingly sabotage their own prayers.  This is like a man forced to his rooftop by flood waters and refusing help from boats and helicopters while declaring, “I'm OK, God is going to save me”.

Proverbs 22:15 Spare the rod, and you will spoil the child.

No loving parent wants to see their child suffer or experience pain.  We hurt when they hurt!  However, a wise parent understands that without proper discipline, their child WILL hurt themselves and others.  True love corrects and punishes despite the pain it may cause.

"Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it."  Hebrews 12:11

Proverbs 20:1 A wise man does not allow alcohol to mock him!

Everyone likes to have a good time.  However, when it comes to alcohol, there is a hidden danger. Alcoholism is the third leading cause of PREVENTABLE deaths in the U.S.   More than 10%of U.S. children live with a parent with alcohol problems.  Alcohol destroys families and destinies.   The joy of the Lord is our strength and that joy comes when we are filled with His Spirit!   "And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit" -Ephesians 5:18

Proverbs 14:15 Test what you hear against the truth

There are many voices in the world vying for our attention and assent.  We have to distinguish between the harmful and the helpful.  Jesus said it this way, "Beware of the leaven of the Scribes and Pharisees!".  Some people do not take the time to consider what they hear and test it against the truth.  This proverb calls these people SIMPLE.  God imparts wisdom to those who take the time to seriously CONSIDER what they hear in the light of His principles.  Failure to follow this pattern results in spiritual blindness!  Each morning, we should ask God to give us OUR daily bread!
