Scripture Memorization Tips

Here are a few scripture memorization tips to help you commit passages to memory

1. … With all thy getting, get understanding (Proverbs 4:7b)
It is easier to memorize what you understand!  Our  Wisdom Builder videos begin with a short explanation of the memory verse  for this reason.  Whenever you desire to memorize  scripture,, you should endeavor to understand what it means.  Consider the context and find related passages.  We must always remember that this is God's word and what HE wants us to know is paramount.
Pray and ask God to help your understanding as you study and meditate on the passage.  He has promised to show us the truth.  Remember that our opinions are clouded by life experiences, culture and other factors.

2. Practice Saying The Passage
The Wisdom Builder "Practice Track" has been designed for this purpose.  It can be found in the media section below Wisdom Builder articles.  You can also record verses that you want to memorize on your phone.  You can then play them back and practice at will.
When giving thanks at each daily meal, try to quote the verse and where it is found (e.g. Proverbs 29:18)

3.  Write It Down!
You can write the verse down on a card or on sticky notes.  You can take the card with you and use it to practice. Sticky notes may be placed on  mirrors, dressers, the refrigerator, etc.  Writing helps your memory and seeing thee notes remind you to practice.
You can also place the verse on the lock screen of your phone, tablet or computer.

4.  The First Letter Technique
Practice writing the first letter of each word in the verse.  This causes you to focus on each word.  This will help your understanding and memory of the verse.

Practice these tips using the verse below:

Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:11 New King James Version (NKJV)
